5 Steps to Becoming a Top Producer

carolyn-waffleHave you ever been scrolling through Facebook and felt the ping of jealousy or resentment when you see a photo (or multiple photos) of fellow travel professionals receiving top producer awards at a certain supplier’s end of the year extravaganza? If you are human, in this business and not receiving any top producer awards yet, my guess the answer to this question is yes. I am sure you also wonder if you will ever be in that photo, receiving the award, and how the top producer award receivers achieved such a prestigious accomplishment. Well today is your lucky day.

Why? First of all, I am going to tell you that you can absolutely be that travel agency owner. I don’t care how long or short you’ve been in the business. I don’t care about your geographic location and the lack of affluent travelers that live there. Anybody, and I mean anybody, can achieve a top producer status.

Second, I am going to lay it out for you – the path to achieving top producer status with your favorite supplier. It really is quite simple – so simple that I’ve narrowed it down to 5 steps. So here they are:

1. Pick a Focus

This means you have to specialize, create a core, compelling message that articulates your specialty in a magnetic way, and then become super loyal to your favorite suppliers. 2. Establish Your Goal

If I had $1 for every time a travel professional told me they wanted to grow their business and attract more clients, without any clarity on how big and how many more clients, I would be retired right now. So get clear on your ultimate goal. Get specific. If you don’t know what top producer status looks like, speak to your BDM about it. Ask the questions to get the clarity you need.

3. Map Out Your Plan

Once you have clarity on your ultimate goal, figure out how you will get there. For example, let’s say your goal is 100 bookings with that specific supplier in a calendar year. Break it down. That means 8.33 bookings per month, or approximately 2 bookings per week. Ask yourself, how many prospects do you need to get in front of to secure 2 bookings per week or just over 8 bookings per month? What if you mix it up with a few groups? What does that do to your monthly booking goal? Then decide what marketing you will do to get in front of a sufficient number of prospects. Map out your marketing a year in advance. 4. Re-Wire Your Mindset

Odds are, you have picked up a scarcity mindset along the way in this life. Very few people don’t. This is the number one thing that gets in the way of success. Successful entrepreneurs believe in unlimited abundance and prosperity. They understand that they just have to keep their eyes on their goals, believe in them 100%, and take inspired action. They don’t let the fears that will naturally creep up stop them or slow them down. They think big, believe in their dreams and take action despite the fear. Abundance accumulates on the inside before it expresses itself on the outside. Begin a ritual for tapping into the unlimited abundance resource that lies within you. That means in every single moment, you have a choice to focus on thoughts that are productive or sabotaging. Pay attention to how you feel! When you are feeling fearful, overwhelmed, anxious, doubtful, or anything else negative, that’s your sign that your attention is on thoughts that are sabotaging your success. Shift your focus to where you are going, NOT where you are. Get excited about the success that is coming to you, even if it’s not there yet.

5. Fill Up With Entrepreneurial Nutrition

Surrounding yourself with others on a similar path/journey is one of the most undervalued steps to success in any industry. Achieving a goal as significant as becoming a top producer with your favorite supplier is going to require you to step outside of your comfort zone on a regular basis. Like daily. Many of us travel entrepreneurs came from an employee environment where stepping outside our comfort zones was rarely required. Human beings seek comfort, so stepping outside this zone goes against our human nature. The best way to ensure you continue to take action, implement your marketing plan and put yourself out there is to surround yourself with others on a similar path and fill up with entrepreneurial nutrition.
